The governorship candidate of the Action Alliance Party (AA) in the 2023 Kogi State governorship election, Otunba Olayinka Braimoh, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the Supreme Court’s judgement that upheld the positions of the lower courts (Tribunal and Appeal), which ruled in favour of Ahmed Ododo of the APC as the winner of the election.
In a press statement issued on Saturday by Musa Olumayowa Yakubu, Media Head of the Olayinka Braimoh Campaign Organ, Braimoh stated, “We received the news of the Supreme Court judgement. Even though we accept, we do not agree with the judgement because we realised that we have a system that rewards bad behaviour.”
Braimoh further commented, “Well, the governor’s office is tenured while the poverty in the land is alarming, and I can as well say that, please, keep hope alive because the poverty is also tenured.
“Implementation of our wealth creation agenda will soon start, and we shall keep on supporting businesses and individuals as we have been doing to kick out poverty away from our land.”
He added, “Let’s be focused, believing that sooner, we shall get out of this self-inflicted poverty. Thank you for the overwhelming support during the elections and throughout the period of the legal battle. I am honoured.”
This was Braimoh’s first attempt at the governorship seat under the Action Alliance Party (AA). He ran a vigorous campaign with widespread grassroots mobilisation that reached all political wards and units in the state.
Despite the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declaring Usman Ododo of the APC the winner, Braimoh challenged the electoral process through the Tribunal, Appeal, and finally the Supreme Court, citing widespread manipulation and unprecedented overvoting.
Braimoh’s efforts in the legal battle and his commitment to addressing poverty in Kogi State have been notable, and he remains steadfast in his dedication to improving the state’s conditions.
