A group known as the Suleja Indigenous Professionals in the Construction Industry has called on Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago’s administration to prioritize the supervision and monitoring of projects, especially in urban local government areas like Suleja.
In a press statement issued on Saturday in Minna, the state capital, the group, urged the governor to focus on overseeing ongoing projects in these areas.
The statement highlights, “As we embark on the transformative journey to build a new Niger State, we, the indigenous professionals in the construction industry, urge Your Excellency to prioritize the supervision and monitoring of ongoing projects, particularly in urban local governments like Suleja.”
It continues, “While we commend your vision, we cannot overlook the glaring lapses in project execution. It is disheartening to see projects funded with taxpayers’ money mishandled by unprofessional individuals or intentionally compromised, resulting in subpar standards.”

The statement criticizes issues such as “contractors lacking a clear public presence or accessible channels, which makes community engagement and accountability challenging,” and notes “non-adherence to road construction standards, substandard materials used for drainages, culverts, and bridges, as well as inconsistent road sizes and ignorance of civil engineering rules.”
The group implores Governor Bago to visit construction sites in Suleja to see the compromised quality firsthand. It emphasizes, “as stakeholders, we cannot remain silent while public funds are utilized.
The future of our state depends on the integrity of our actions today.”
“Let us work together to ensure our projects meet global best practices and that our state becomes a beacon of excellence in road construction.
Posterity will judge us, but with collective effort, we can create a legacy of pride and progress.”
