Transfer: Guardiola Opts Against Signing Backup for Haaland, Admitting It Might Be a Mistake

Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has confirmed that he will not be signing a backup striker for Erling Haaland.

This decision comes after Julian Alvarez’s departure to Atletico Madrid in a transfer deal that could reach up to £81 million. Alvarez’s exit leaves Haaland as the only senior striker in City’s squad.

Despite being linked with several players, City has only added winger Savinho and midfielder Ilkay Gundogan to their ranks.

Addressing the decision not to sign another striker, Guardiola said: “Maybe it’s a mistake, I don’t know, but I prefer to work with a smaller squad. I don’t like having too many players not playing for extended periods.”
