Yunusa Tanko, the former spokesperson to Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, has denied any merger talks with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Tanko, in a statement, dismissed claims made by PDP’s Deputy National spokesperson, Ibrahim Abdullahi, that the opposition parties were discussing a potential merger.
“We’re focused on building our nationwide structure, not merger talks,” Yunusa stated.
According to Yunusa, Obi has learned from the mistakes of the last election and is committed to consolidating his political base.
“The Obidient Movement is everywhere, cutting across political parties.
“We’re building a movement for good governance, and anyone interested in that is an OBIdient person,” the interim national coordinator of OBIdient Movement added.
In contrast, PDP’s Ibe claimed that Atiku Abubakar has consistently advocated for an opposition alliance to address Nigeria’s challenges.
“Nigeria is on life support under Tinubu’s administration,” Ibe said. “Atiku’s call for an alliance is more pertinent than ever.”
The denial comes as political permutations for the 2027 presidential election begin.
