Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has reopened the Informatics Institute after eight years of closure by the previous administration.
During the reopening ceremony in Kura Local Government, Governor Yusuf presented admission letters to 250 students, allowing them to begin academic activities without delay.
While reopening the institute, Governor Yusuf expressed his commitment to revitalizing all institutions of learning that were shut down by the previous administration in the state. He stated that the institute is designed to meet the requirements of and enhance the digital economy.
He emphasized that the revival of the institute aligns with his administration’s broader vision for the digital economy in Kano State. According to him, the institution, commissioned 12 years ago by former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, was intended to train youth in information technology and provide them with the skills to meet the challenges of modern communication technologies.
Governor Yusuf added, “This moment is significant because we are focused on education and information technology in Kano State.”
He noted that many graduates of the institute have made significant strides in their careers and are employed in various parastatals, companies, and ministries, not only in Kano but across the globe. He recalled, “The institution has played a significant role in advancing information technology in the region, contributing to the professional development of students and enhancing their impact in key sectors of the economy.”
While congratulating the students and staff of the institute, Governor Yusuf assured them of continued support for the advancement of the school. “Let me assure all our students and indeed the citizens of the state that this institute will once again be a center of excellence where our young people will be trained in various aspects of information technology, empowering them to become leaders in the digital economy by the grace of Allah.”
Earlier, the Director of the Informatics Institute, Mutassim Uba Adamu, announced the commencement of academic activities and informed the governor of his determination to achieve higher academic accreditation for the institution. He also disclosed that an adult literacy program will commence at the institute, among other relevant information technology courses.

Adamu emphasized, “The courses available include Information and Communication Technology, Machine Learning, Robotics, Intercom Installations, Security Door Installations, Fire Alarm Installations, CCTV and VSAT Installations, and Wired and Wireless Installations, among others.”
While appealing to the governor for the restoration of staff salaries, Adamu also called for the recruitment of qualified teachers for the institution.
Additionally, the Kano State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Tajuddeen Zaura, explained that the institute is focusing on information technology-related courses to brighten the future of younger generations.
Some students, including Muhamnad Ibrahim and Aisa Waziri, who received their admissions, expressed their gratitude to Governor Yusuf for reviving the Informatics Institute and promised to make the most of this opportunity.
