WTD: Approve 65/40 yrs retirement age, teachers appeal to Gov Sani

The Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools(ASUSS) Kaduna state chapter has appealed to the state governor, Senator Uba Sani, to approve the 65/40 years retirement age for teachers in the state.

This was made known by the state chairman of ASUSS, Comrade Ishaya Dauda, during the 2023 World Teachers Day celebration held at Kabir Gymnasium in Kaduna on Thursday.

Dauda noted that since the introduction of the retirement age for tutors two years ago, the Kaduna state government has yet to implement it.

According to him, being the headquarters of the North, all Northern states should copy from the state, not otherwise.

He said many states, such as Kano, Kogi, Adamawa, and Taraba, have approved the new retirement age for their teachers.

To this end, ” We want to appeal to our amiable governor, His Excellency Comrade Uba Sani, to please approve the 65/40 years harmonized retirement age for tutors in Kaduna.

While appreciating the state government’s effort in posting members of the vigilante to schools, the union called on the government to put more effort into tackling the menace of banditry kidnapping now that they’re on the rise.

“Many of our members and students have been kidnapped with so many death recorded – effort need to be taken by the state government to control this menace to prevent the closure of more schools in rural areas across the state.
