LG elections: OYSIEC clears NNPP chairmanship, councillorship candidates

As the Oyo State local government elections, scheduled to take place in February next year, gain momentum, the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) cleared all candidates presented by the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) on Friday.

OYSIEC began the screening exercise for candidates vying for the positions of chairman and councillor in the upcoming local government council elections in the state on Monday, October 30, 2023.

Mr Sunday Adeosun, the Chairman of the NNPP in Oyo State, led the party’s candidates to the OYSIEC state office in Ibadan. He lauded the ongoing activities of the electoral commission and its preparations for next year’s election.

Adeosun remarked, “Our party members and candidates came to the OYSIEC office today for local government election screening, having verified their tax clearance and certificates. It is good news that all the candidates we presented were cleared. We thanked OYSIEC for not being biased.

“With the clearance of our candidates today, it means we are progressing. I have said it before and will keep saying that the NNPP is a party to beat in the forthcoming election.

Adeosun expressed his satisfaction with the screening conducted by OYSIEC and commended the commission for demonstrating readiness to conduct a free and fair election in the state.
