Ondo Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, CON, SAN has said that the security of corps members deployed to the state is of paramount concern to his administration.
The governor stated this during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2023 Batch ‘C’ (Stream 1) corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko.
Governor Akeredolu, who was represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Otunba Bamidele Ologun said that the selfless service of the corps members needed to be appreciated.
“As a responsible government, I want to say, without mincing words that your welfare and security would be adequately catered for during your service year as I also want to enjoin the stakeholders of the Scheme to continue to support the NYSC in her bid to perform optimally,” he said.
Akeredolu urged the corps members to take the contents of the orientation course seriously so as to have full understanding and the benefits of the mandatory service to the fatherland.
He said that his administration will continue to improve on the developmental projects and infrastructures that will encourage those who observe their mandatory service to stay and live in the state at the end of the service year.
In her welcome address, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani appealed to philanthropists and well-meaning Nigerians to support Government at all levels to develop the orientation camp.
“I want to use this opportunity to appeal for assistance and encourage both the State and Local Governments, corporate citizens as well as well-meaning Nigerians and philanthropists to make their presence felt in the camp by having a project which we promise to name after such entity.”
The State Coordinator admonished the new inductees to continue to be of good behaviour and conduct throughout the service year while also charging them to distinguish themselves right from the orientation course and work relentlessly towards becoming outstanding award winners at the end of the service year.
She advised them to participate actively in all camp activities, comport themselves as mature youths and prepare for the challenges of the service year and post-service life.
The representative of the Chief Judge of Ondo State, Honourable Justice Femi Sylvester Akinbinu administered the Oath of Allegiance to over 1400 corps members who registered in the state for the service.
Some of the critical stakeholders who attended the programme were the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and two Directors from the Ministry, representative of the Owa-Ale Adimula of Ikareland and the State Commander, Citizenship and Leadership Training (Man O’ War).
Others included the representatives of the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police, The Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Fire Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Federal Science and Technical College, Ikare-Akoko, and others too numerous to mention.
